Julia Addington

In 1869 Julia Addington became the first woman elected to office in the Iowa and one of the first women elected in United states. To honor this historic event, the Preservation Association has installed a sign in front of property owned by Julia Addington at 401 Albion Street in Stacyville, Iowa.

The 150th anniversary of this historic election is October 12, 2019. There will be a program honoring Julia Addington at the Cedar River Complex, 809 Sawyer Drive in Osage. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. with a program at 6:30- p.m. Refreshments will be served after the program and the Museum will be open featuring a display honoring Julia Addington. The program is free and open to the public. Sponsors for the event include the Mitchell County Historic Preservation Association, the Mitchell County Historical Society, the Republican and Democratic parties of Mitchell County.
